The Dark Queen -- Chapter 12

Chapter 12

The weeks passed and Angelique extracted her revenge.  Her sea captain, with his man parts freshly removed, was confined in her chamber.  She made him beg for death, but she bled him slowly and tortured him.  Angie would make the captain swallow a gold coin before inserting various objects inside of him.  She usually tried to muffle his screams just as she had muffled her own, but not always.  His voice would sometimes echo down the passageways and Queen Debra would say it was deserved.  When the captain finally succumbed to death, Angie noted that his intestines were worth a small fortune.  There was still one person left who Angie did not dare to touch.

Cira had acted exactly as she had promised.  She took to the streets, to the parlors, to the homes, poisoning every mind she could against the Queen.  Debra did nothing, or so we all assumed.  It was the night went Cira was holding a grand meeting to overthrow the Queen.  Most of the vampires in Seville had joined her.  There were some that remained loyal, and we all stood watching the Queen as she sat in silence for many hours.  When she finally rose from her throne, she commanded us to grab kindling, torches, pitch, and many sharp wooden stakes and hammers.  She led us through Seville to the very house where the vampires had gathered.  She lit the first torch and placed it against the newly blackened walls.  Flames and smoke rose up into the night air, and the rest of us lit our torches.  Soon, the entire house was ablaze.

The vampires who tried to escape, were grabbed and held to the ground.  We all took turns driving the stakes through their flaming hearts.  Many did not make it out, but Cira did.  Debra instructed me to throw water on her so the flames would be extinguished.  Cira could hardly stand as I did as my sister told me to do.  Then Debra asked for a stake.  Cira, through charred voice and burnt lips, pleaded for her life, but Debra was now deaf to her.  She gave Angie the satisfaction of holding her as my sister hammered the stake through the betrayer's heart.  That was the last time anyone ever opposed my sister's rule in Spain, and she would sit upon the throne for many more years.
